The former UFC champion says a main reason why Alex Pereira lost

Aljamain Sterling thinks that the active calendar of the UFC of Alex Pereira has wreaked havoc.

Pereira (12-3 MMA, 9-2 UFC) lost its light heavyweight title against Magomed Ankalaev (21-1-1 MMA, 12-1 UFC) by unanimous decision in the headliner of the UFC 313 on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Pereira holds the shortest record between three defenses in the UFC title at 175 days. He was one of the seven fighters to record three defends in title during a calendar year in 2024. A former champion himself, Sterling said that the Pereira calendar was too trying on his body.

“Pereira fights too often,” said Sterling YouTube channel. “Three title defenses in seven months. It’s madness to do it, and it’s not like his fights were tip fights. You could say that Jamahal Hill One was not damaged. Ok, cool. I understand that. The Jiri, he suffered damage in there. Then, the Khalil Routree fight was a big fight where he took good shots.

“You get out, add to the fact that he bounces from these fights and he returns immediately to the gymnasium almost one, maybe two weeks later. You aggravate this with the number of times he argued. When Pereira gives herself, her body, her brain and her chin a chance to take a break and recover? I do not think it gives itself enough time between the fights to give the best version of itself each time. »»

Pereira’s next fight already seems to be aligned with the promotion in favor of an immediate revenge match with Ankalaev on a date to be determined.
