Tatiana Suarez did not move away from her fight against Zhang Weili at UFC 312 unharmed, and she will have the scar to prove it.
On Tuesday, the veteran weight of the straw showed the consequences of an injury she suffered during her fight last weekend when a massive notch opened on her knee. During the broadcast, the UFC comment team noted that the important opening on Suarez’s leg occurred after being cut by the cage during an exchange of grappling.
Suarez revealed an image on his Instagram of his leg after obtaining stitches, which will obviously take the time to heal.
Despite the nasty cut on her knee, Suarez fought for the five laps, but finally failed in the wrong part of a unanimous loss of decision against the champion in title of straw weights.
It was a disappointing result for Suarez after showing gold at the UFC since she won the TV show Ultimate Fighter. The injuries have slowed down the progression of Suarez, with multiple layoffs derailing its progression, but it finally had the opportunity to fight for the title at the UFC 312.
Although the fight did not have gone to its meaning, Suarez published a statement on its future after the defeat last Saturday.
“Win, lose or shoot, I am where I want to be,” wrote Suarez on Instagram. “Do what I like to do every day in my life. I have the best people around me who love me for me. Live the dream! It’s all about good mindset, and life taught me over and over again. I lived everything: thrill, agony, happiness, sorrow. That’s life. I am lucky to have this life.
Suarez now has a file of 10-1 in total, but it remains one of the best contenders for straw weights in sport, whatever its defeat against Zhang at the UFC 312.
