Paddy Pimbelett does not agree with the featherweight champion of the UFC, Ilia Topuria, jumping the line in light weight.
Many discussions have been made on Topuria targeting the light champion Islam Makhachev to make a superfight between UFC titles with a combined file of 43-1. Makhachev is apparently short of Challengers after having recorded a record defense of the fourth consecutive title, while Topuria comes out of the KO against the legends of 145 pounds Max Holloway and Alexander Volkanovski.
UFC commentator Joe Rogan recently said that he did not care about Topuria than a single title defense, he wanted to see “El Matador” against Makhachev as soon as possible. Pimbett does not agree.
“I cannot see Ilia fight Islam,” said Pimbett on the Red blood podcast. “He only defended the belt once, normally you have to defend the belt, like, three times, and it is not so big for jumping. He is not (Conor) McGregor. To jump right away and fight for the other belt, so I can’t see it personally happen, but we’ll see what’s going on.
“I heard the headliner of Ilia the event (UFC) 314 against Volk, but you do not know until nothing is finalized with the UFC. I was told that and that in the past few weeks, in recent months, and we’ll just see what’s going on. “”
Pimbett raises the example of Conor McGregor, who won the LUMS weight title of the UFC in 2015 with a 13 -second KO on Jose Aldo and was then immediately reserved to challenge the light weight champion Rafael Dos Anjos. This fight fell due to the back anjos undergoing an injury, which led McGregor to divide a series of two fights with the Nate Diaz replacement, then to defeat Eddie Alvarez at the UFC 205 to claim the light belt.
As Pimbett points out, McGregor was the largest UFC box office draw at the time, which meant that he played by his own set of rules (McGregor did not defend the light title either, Reserving a massive cross -country match with Floyd Mayweather). As popular as Topuria is in her adopted house in Spain, Pimbett still does not think that he deserves a special treatment with regard to a title against Makhachev.
Pimbett and Topuria have argued in the past, but for the moment “The Baddy” has other opponents to worry. Rumors have turned around him by perhaps fighting Michael Chandler or Dustin Poirier, but Pimbett warns not to listen to social media hooves, and what he can say for the moment is that he plans to fight at UFC 314 in Miami.
“I always tell people not to provide them with twitter stupid pages,” said Pimbett. “They all talk about absolute pony. They do everything for clicks, but I am open to fighting on 314. Miami. I have never been in Miami, so I hope to fight on it. This is my plan.
