Christopher Ewert is convinced that it is only a matter of time.
Given the time and sacrifice he has put, he thinks that the universe will reward him. He still needs to work hard, but so far he has harvested what he has sown.
“I am hungry to win everything,” said Ewert recently to MMA Junkie through a Spanish language interpreter. “I come from a third world country, and people do not realize that I have no safeguard plan. I come here for everything, to succeed, to win. I don’t want to lose. I want to continue to move forward and continue to win. »»
Born and raised in Chile, Ewert (7-0) was an athlete. Like many Latin American children, he loved football and dreamed of making it big. When this dream collapsed, Ewert’s sporting capacities too. He has gained weight – too much weight. So much weight, in fact, that he knew he needed a lifestyle change.
Seven years ago, Ewert entered an MMA gymnasium to change his life in terms of physical form. What he didn’t know is that it would change his trajectory entirely.
A day construction worker Ewert trained at night. Not only did he transform his body, but the skills he built were good – really good. When he realized that he could have a professional future, it was at this time that he wandered his bags and moved to the United States.
“This is part of the sacrifice. Over the past two years, I have registered this work. … I think there are a lot of things I have left for helping me, my own family, my own brothers, who supported me. When I am here, they supported take care of my family, looking at everything while I have my dream. My brother, my family, everyone – I have the right people to come here. Sometimes you come and you don’t have good advice.
Ewert now trains under the wing of Bellator and Javier Torres of “The Ultimate Fighter 13” at the Ultimate Kombat Training Center in Mesa, Arizona. A well-connected and traveled fighter himself, Torres told MMA Junkie that he bordered Ewert to transform with a few big names in recent months.
According to Torres, the former UFC champions and the title challengers praised the undefeated Chilean weight of 31 years.
“Everyone can call the devil, but when they really have the devil in front of them, they are all afraid,” said Torres. “… Anthony Smith and different guys from around the world, they come to train. Anthony Smith said: “Bro, there is no one in the UFC who can manage this pressure.” I don’t see it. He has big hands, all that. Alex Pereira, his coach, said, “You are looking at the next 185 pound champion. Holy Moly. He is incredible – his pressure, his skills and his movements. His IQ is incredible.
“In two minutes, he begins to break everyone. I’m not going to say names, but he drops each person with a liver. It’s a good mix. You don’t see too many liver photos. You launch two punches, he launches eight. You launch three, he launches 12 – in the liver, in the head, mixing angles. You see him fighting. You see his record. I can tell you high -level guys who come to meet him say: “There is not one with which I fought or to train at the UFC which gives you this pressure.” “”
Ewert recently contributed to the Fury FC 100 in January when he beat another unbeaten hope Watkins with a unanimous decision. The victory drew the attention of the UFC interchange, Mick Maynard, who attempted Ewert shortly after – but travel problems have stopped the idea, at least for the moment.
“I just received the call but we have visa problems,” said Ewert. “So now we have to wait for this to be repaired. We were supposed to fight Alonzo Menifield. I’m ready to fight tomorrow. One thing about me, it doesn’t matter who it is or what weight it is, heavy goods vehicle, light heavy goods vehicle, average weight, Welter weight, we are all made of bone. We have two hands and bones. I will fight anyone. I am not afraid of anyone: Top-creq, Top-15, Top-20, the world champion. I will fight anyone.
Chile is not necessarily known for its MMA talent, although it had a handful of successful K1 athletes. Ewert hopes that he and his compatriot Ignacio Bahamondes will really be able to put Chile on the MMA card with online victories.
“I just want to say everyone and everyone that the Chileans, we have a lot of heart and a lot of bullets,” said Ewert. “I’m going to be the first Chilean champion of the UFC and prove to everyone that we have everything to have a champion.
“… My name is Christopher Ewert and they call me” El Tanke “, like a tank. I am a tank. You can’t stop “El Tanke”.
