Las Vegas – Magomed Ankalaev knew that he had the Light Truck title of the UFC when the final bell sounded against Alex Pereira.
Although Pereira (12-3 MMA, 9-2 UFC) thought he had done enough to win the decision, and some online supported his complaint, Ankalaev (21-1-1 MMA, 12-1-1 UFC) thought that Pereira had not done enough and that he was looking to fight all the time.
“I was confident,” said Ankalaev at the post-combat press conference of the UFC 313 when he was asked how confident he was to win a decision. “I continued to move forward. I continued to put it pressure and he continued to flee me. For 20 minutes, this guy was fleeing to me. Then I heard at the end of the fight he said that he did not know why the victory was given to me. Who are they supposed to give victory? I was putting pressure on all the time, and he was running for 20 minutes, and he wonders who is supposed to win the victory?
“Listen, I’m happy for a revenge match if he wants a revenge match, but perhaps the revenge match he can fight for real, not only run away all the time.”
Ankalaev defeated Pereira with a unanimous decision in the main event of the UFC 313 on Saturday, which took place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The Dagrestani fighter prevented Pereira from making his fourth title for 205 pounds, while also improving his own undefeated sequence at 13 in a row.
Given the massive power of Pereira and the lack of better contenders in the weight category, many expect it to be an immediate revenge match between the two. The CEO of the UFC, Dana White, told the press conference after the fight they will probably go back.
Ankalaev is more than happy to make the immediate revenge match, give it just a date and a place.
“I have never chosen my opponents, so I’m very happy and ready for revenge,” said Ankalaev. “Whenever UFC offers it, we will see what is the date, and we will be happy to accept it.”
