An entertainment company said that boxer Ryan Garcia fell an injury last year to retreat from an exhibition struggle, according to a trial filed on Thursday in the California American district court.
Fanmio, the company based in Florida, continues Garcia for breach of contract. The trial focuses on an exhibition which was to put Garcia against Rukiya Anpo – a fight that would have given Garcia a chance to fight while he is serving a year to test positive for a prohibited substance.
Garcia announced on December 15 that he had undergone a wrist injury during the training camp and should postpone the fight against the exhibition against December 30 in Tokyo. He had accepted the exhibition and was contractually forced to participate, according to the complaint.
But Fanmio, the exhibition promoter, said Garcia had “pretended” the injury and remote on December 14, a day before the event.
On January 20, it was announced that Garcia would fight in Rolly Romero in New York on May 2, about two weeks after the end of his suspension. He tested positive for Ostarine the weekend of her April 2024 fight against Devin Haney in Brooklyn that Garcia won by majority decision.
“Instead, without any sign of surgery or recovery of the” injury “which prevented him from participating in the exhibition, Garcia should fight Rolly Romero in New York on May 2 – Times Square Fight,” said the complaint.
Lupe Valence, a lawyer who represents Garcia, told USA Today Sports the Boxer “did nothing wrong and that we will respond to the trial. There is nothing more to add than that.
A press release published on December 15 said that the boxer was evaluated three days earlier by the orthopedic surgeon Steven Shin of OrthopeDic Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles for an aggravated bilateral wrist injury.
“I recommend keeping combat and boxing matches for several weeks,” said Shin, the press release. “The processing options will be discussed with Mr. Garcia after a more in -depth assessment.”
Fanmio also continues the Golden Boy promotions, with which Garcia is under contract. Fanmio says that Golden Boy Promotions “did not use his influence badly and contract with Garcia to prevent the match from performing.”
Eric Gomez, president of Golden Boy Promotions, did not immediately respond to requests for comments from USA TODAY SPORTS left by voicemail and SMS.
